About This Event

In partnership with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS) and a Time for Science, EENC is hosting an Eastern Section event at NCMNS Contentnea Creek this May!

Explore the brand new Nancy and John Bray Environmental Education and Visitor Center, take a wagon ride to tour the 400-acre property, and kayak on the beautiful pond, all in the company of other EENC community members and environmental educators!

The EENC team chatted about NCMNS Contentnea Creek with A Time for Science's Education Coordinator Sam Eubanks last summer back when the Environmental Education Center was still under construction (read the blog post here), so we’re particularly excited for EENC and NCMNS to now co-host this event that takes advantage of the new space. This is a unique opportunity for environmental educators working in eastern North Carolina to tour and enjoy one of the region’s wonderful EE assets – hope to see you there!

Agenda Outline:

  • 10-10:30: Enjoy refreshments at the Nancy and John Bray Environmental Education and Visitor Center.
  • 10:30-11:30: Take a guided wagon tour of the property, including “behind the scenes” spots not accessible via the public hiking trails.
  • 11:30-12:30: Grab a kayak and hit the pond!

This event is open to EENC Eastern Section Members and the broader Eastern NC environmental education community. Ages 18 and up. RSVP required. Direct questions to EENC Eastern Section Board Chair Jess Stitt at jessica@eenc.org.

About the Location: The NC Museum of Natural Sciences at Contentnea Creek, located near Ayden in Pitt County, has provided over 20,000 visitors a year with astronomy education, environmental education programming, and recreation opportunities since 2020 as an official branch of the NC Museum of the Natural Sciences (NCMNS), and for many years before that while operated independently by A Time for Science. Contentnea Creek boasts almost 400 acres of conserved land for guests to paddle, hike, and explore, as well as a planetarium and public observatory and the Nancy and John Bray Environmental Education and Visitor Center.
