About This Event

The BEETLES (Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning, and Expertise Sharing) learning sessions are active experiences crafted to encourage instructors to look at specific aspects of research-based science pedagogy and to inspire shifts in instructors’ thinking about their own teaching and learning. Developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science, these hands-on and interactive sessions promote a student-centered approach to help participants better engage with science and the natural world through inquiry.  This workshop will focus on Questioning Strategies and Teaching and Learning.

This workshop is for educators (formal, nonformal, and higher education) want to:

  • Analyze the impact of questions on student thinking and behavior, and use this information to make thoughtful decisions about when to use different types of questions in instruction. (Questioning Strategies)

  • Learn the benefits of sequencing different stages of an activity strategically to achieve engagement, meaning-making, and in-depth learning. (Teaching and Learning)

  • Explore best practices for planning and implementing EE programs that foster learning and promote inclusivity.

Format: This course will hosted in-person at Horizons Unlimited in Salisbury, NC.

Facilitator: Michelle Pearce and Elise Tellez

Eligible for 6 hours of Criteria I or continuing education credit for the NC DEQ EE Certificate.

This workshop will include time outdoors, so please dress for the weather. You will need to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages.Other Information:

This workshop will take place primarily indoors. Masks are not currently required at this location.  We will be following the most up-to-date safety guidelines recommended by the CDC based on . As things are constantly changing, you will hear from the facilitator about any specific requirements as the date approaches.COVID Safety Requirements:Community Levels
