About This Event
September 23rd is National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the largest single-day public lands volunteer event in the nation, coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation. In honor of this year’s 30th NPLD anniversary theme, “30 years of care and community,” we are mobilizing the EENC community to volunteer at state parks across North Carolina. In collaboration with the NC State Parks system, and with nonprofit partners across the state, EENC is excited to host volunteer workdays for our members – and community at large – on Saturday, September 23rd, to help maintain and protect the lands we love. Read on for details about the Cashiers-area workday.
Join EENC's Western Section and Friends of Panthertown to celebrate National Public Lands Day on September 23. Enjoy mountain views while hiking to Old Granny Burrell Homesite to remove Autumn Olive, an invasive species. Enjoy a packed lunch before taking a scenic loop back to the trailhead. Plant talks, geological features and waterfalls will be along the way! The three mile round trip is moderate to strenuous (and worth it!). All tools and safety equipment, including PPE, will be provided.
Participants should wear long pants, long sleeve shirt and closed-toe shoes. Bring a lunch, snacks, water bottle and any element protection you wish, such such sunscreen.
