About This Event
The demand for nature center employees and other environmental educators to convey information in a digital format is only getting stronger. Luckily, there are many easy and affordable ways for even the beginning filmmaker to create professional looking and dynamic content! Join ecoEXPLORE staff as they share the tips and tricks that they have learned to make their videos stand out. Topics will include writing, filming, and editing, the creation of animated sequences, and best practices for finding resources such as stock videos, images, and music. Following direct instruction, video examples and small group discussions, you will walk away with the skill set to create one-of-a-kind videos made specifically for your intended purposes!
About the Facilitators: Jenna Kesgen and Andrew Dundas
Jenna Kesgen is Creative Education Coordinator at the North Carolina Arboretum and has written, filmed and edited many videos for the ecoEXPLORE program. She received her master’s degree in environmental education at Southern Oregon University, and spent three years as a middle school science teacher in Buncombe County, NC before working for the Arboretum. She is currently earning her Digital Media Certification from AB Technical College.
Andrew Dundas is a Creative Environmental Education Specialist at the North Carolina Arboretum and a recent graduate from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. His studies focused on visual communication, including the production of videos, websites and informational graphics. He has produced short documentaries and a growing number of educational videos.
Suggested Pre Session Work: Please come to the workshop with a project in mind. After each section of the workshop you will have time to reflect on the new information and apply it to your project.
Logistics:Â This workshop will be held on Zoom and is eligible for 2 hours of Criteria III/Continuing Ed for the NC EE Certification.
21st Century EE Skills is a series of short workshops (2hours each) to help educators build the "other duties as assigned" that have now become integral totheir jobs either as professional educators or program managers. These workshops go beyond an informational webinar, offering interactive, in-depth explorations of a single topic. This workshop series will be held by the Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC) in partnership with the North Carolina Association for Environmental Education Centers (NCAEEC).
