About This Event

The BEETLES (Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning, and Expertise Sharing) Professional Learning Sessions guide educators to reflect on their own teaching and learning while incorporating best practices from contemporary pedagogy research.  Developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science, these hands-on and interactive sessions promote a student-centered approach to help learners better engage with science and the natural world through inquiry and curiosity.  This workshop will focus on the "Teaching and Learning" session with the opportunity to evaluate a program/activity of your own (or one can be provided) so you can apply what you're learning to your own work.
This workshop is for educators (formal, nonformal, and higher education) who want to:
- Learn the benefits of sequencing different stages of an activity strategically to achieve engagement, meaning-making, and in-depth learning.
- Explore best practices for planning and implementing EE programs that foster learning and promote inclusivity.
- Collaborate with a community of educators to refresh or update an existing lesson or activity that applies the information learned in the session.
Format: This workshop will be hosted in person as our pre-conference workshop at Walnut Creek Wetlands Park in Raleigh. Conference registration is not required to attend this workshp.
Facilitators: Cynthia Peedin from Muddy Sneakers
Eligible for 6 hours of Criteria I or continuing education credit for the NC DEQ EE Certificate.
