professional development weekend for adults only. Thank you for
understanding. Special permission may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Deb Hall at

REFUND POLICY: No Refunds! EENC is
a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Since space will be booked for you, EENC cannot refund Annual
Conference registration fees for any reason. Should you be unable to attend the Annual Conference, please
find someone to attend in your place and notify us, or consider your registration fee a charitable contribution
to EENC. Thank you for understanding.

EENC members can choose to stay in hotel-style cottage rooms that each have a private bath, most having
one double and one twin bed per room. You can choose to request one of these rooms as a triple (where
two people would share the double bed) or a double. Dorm-style cabin rooms are also available and
sleep eight people in twin beds (some bunked) with shared bathroom facilities. So, choose more privacy,
or save some $!

Pilot
Mountain State Park, Jomeokee Geology EELE
(Grades 9-12)
Pilot Mountain is one of the most visible and recognizable
formations in the piedmont of North Carolina. The park
totals 3,703 acres and includes the Pilot Mountain section,
a Yadkin River Section and a 5-mile corridor connecting
the two areas. Evidence of a wide range of geologic
processes are found within the park. Participants will
hike in the park, learn hands-on activities related
to geology and the environment and take home valuable
teaching materials.

Leopold
Education Project
(Grades 6-12)
The Leopold Education Project (LEP) is an innovative,
interdisciplinary, critical thinking, conservation and
environmental education curriculum based on the classic
writings of the renowned conservationist, Aldo Leopold.The
Leopold Education Project teaches the public about humanity's
ties to the natural environment in the effort to conserve
and protect the earth's natural resources. A Sand
County Almanac is required reading for this workshop.

WILD
(Grades K-12)
Project WILD is based on the premise that young people
and educators have a vital interest in learning about
our natural world. The program emphasizes wildlife because
of its intrinsic and ecological values, as well as its
importance as a basis for teaching how ecosystems function.
In the face of competing needs and pressures affecting
the quality and sustainability of life on earth, Project
WILD addresses the need for human beings to develop as
responsible citizens of our planet.

Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an international
water science and education program for educators of students
in grades K-12. The goal of Project WET is to facilitate
and promote the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and
stewardship of water resources through the development
and dissemination of classroom-ready teaching aids and
the establishment of state and internationally sponsored
Project WET programs.

Wonders
Join the Haw River Program (HARP) environmental education
staff on an exploration of their wetland wonderland
adjacent to the Haw River, an area that is among the
last remaining intact freshwater wetlands in the state.
Discover the wetland habitat, observe, collect and identify
some of the vast number of wetland species and participate
in a number of activities to further your appreciation
of how the wetland ecosystem affects us all.
Behind the Scenes at
the Natural Science Center of Greensboro
With everything from live animals to a dinosaur exhibit to a planetarium, the Natural Science Center
of Greensboro offers its patrons a wide variety of educational opportunities. Learn how the Science
Center works to connect the public with the natural world and how they focus on educating the next
generation of science leaders. This trip includes a “backstage” tour as well as a discussion
of how the Science Center works to train educators and teach young people.
Educators in Action
Looking to make a difference while at the conference and put stewardship principles into action? Work
with a local environmental educator to complete an Action Project Partnership and improve the environmental
sustainability of the Haw River Program and Brown Summit conference facilities. The work you do will
leave Brown Summit a better place and will help an environmental educator fulfill their EE certification
requirements.
Nature Drawing and Journaling
Experience the splendid environment of the piedmont through observing and drawing. In this workshop,
we will begin to integrate visual representations of nature into a sketchbook or journal. Learn a
variety of approaches and materials while learning basic nature journaling skills. You will be given
ample time to discover the inspiration and relaxation that comes when one connects with nature in
this way. Feel free to bring a new or current sketchbook or journal or make one with supplies provided.
Environmental Sustainability
at Brown Summit
Tour the Brown Summit conference facilities and learn about how the Haw River Program is promoting
environmentally sustainable practices onsite. Witness specific examples of what can be done to reduce
waste, conserve natural resources and teach an environmental ethic by example. This tour and discussion
will be followed by free time for hiking, birding, swimming, canoeing, tennis and other activities
on the property.
EE and the North Carolina Zoo
The mission of the North Carolina Zoo is to encourage understanding of and commitment to the conservation
of the world’s wildlife and wild places through the recognition of the interdependence of people
and nature. On this tour, you will see how the Zoo is working to educate the public about the
importance of animals and their dependence on our natural world. You will also learn about their Conservation
Captain program, where employees set goals to find and implement ways to reduce, reuse and recycle
resources.
