for NOMINATIONS -- 2005 EENC BOARD of DIRECTORS
Deadline is October 15, 2004
Environmental
Educators of North Carolina (EENC) seeks professionals willing
to gain valuable leadership skills and experience while serving
North Carolina’s official state affiliate to the North
American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). Through
teamwork and consensus, the 15-member Board of Directors renders
the organization’s official decisions and is responsible
for ensuring excellence in the field of environmental education
through the implementation of EENC’s Strategic Plan. As
an EENC member, please nominate yourself or a qualified colleague
today! Complete and mail the official nomination form by October
15, 2004, or complete the online nomination form at www.eenc.org.
Votes will be counted by the Nominating Committee, and confirmed
by the Board of Directors. New members will be installed at
a joint meeting of incoming and outgoing Board Members to take
place January 22-23, 2005. This weekend will also include a
Leadership Board Retreat that is required for all Board members.
We are accepting nominations for all positions, except those
that are noted as CLOSED. Term of service for most positions
is January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005, exceptions being
2-year terms for Treasurer and Secretary and a 3-year term for
President-Elect.
PRESIDENT:
The official spokesperson and official representative of EENC
is accountable for the organization’s commitments, has
final approval over the expenditure of organizational funds,
presides over Board of Directors meetings and Board retreats,
sets annual agenda, makes temporary appointments in emergency
situations to fill vacated Board positions that hold true until
the next Board of Directors meeting, and establishes special
committees and appoints chairs of said committees, as deemed
necessary to further the goals and objectives of EENC. The President
serves as official affiliate liaison to the North American Association
for Environmental Education (NAAEE). The President works with
the President-elect and Past-President to develop and conduct
a leadership training program. The President works with outgoing
Board members to prepare new Board members to assume leadership
roles with EENC. The President oversees the production and update
of a Board manual and updates EENC brochures as needed. CLOSED.
PRESIDENT-ELECT:
The president-in-training substitutes for the President when
necessary, provides support to Section Coordinators, trains
to be President, works with the Treasurer to prepare and propose
the budget for the upcoming term, works with the Membership
Committee in soliciting nominations for Board of Directors positions,
and chairs a Planning Committee to organize and conduct EENC’s
Annual Conference. 3-year term.
IMMEDIATE
PAST-PRESIDENT: The veteran and experienced officer
advises the Board of Directors; serves as EENC representative
on the North Carolina Environmental Education Certification
Committee; apprises the President of Certification Committee’s
responsibilities and current developments three months prior
to President’s assuming Past-President’s role, acts
as parliamentarian at Board meetings, serves on Partnership
Committee as an advisor, makes recommendations as needed to
Conference Committee, and works with President and President-elect
to develop and conduct a leadership training program. The Immediate
Past-President submits written report of actions and communications
to Secretary and copies to Board members upon request. The Immediate
Past-President shall prepare an official Annual Report that
highlights EENC’s accomplishments and activities in the
past year. CLOSED.
SECRETARY:
The official historian and recorder takes minutes at all Board
of Directors meetings, provides the EENC Board with a copy of
the minutes within 30 days following each meeting, serves on
the Membership Committee and assists in identification of inactive
members for re-recruitment efforts. The Secretary maintains
the official current membership roster, provides the Board of
Directors with updated copies of current membership roster as
requested, maintains the list of all EENC Board of Directors
names and business addresses, maintains EENC’s historical
records, maintains correspondence with other individuals, organizations
and groups, and serves on the Communications Committee. 2-year
term. CLOSED.
TREASURER:
The official banker & bookkeeper maintains EENC’s
financial records, oversees all receipt and expenditure of funds
in EENC’s operating budget. The Treasurer, as chief accountant,
also prepares a budget report at every Board meeting, submits
IRS tax forms, and consults with the President-elect (re: proposed
budget). 2-year term.
CENTRAL
SECTION COORDINATOR: The field trip leader and primary
correspondent in the NC Piedmont organizes fun and educational
outings for EENC members in the North Central, Central, and
South Central sections of NC. The Central Section Coordinator
resides in the Central Section, represents the needs & interests
of EENC’s Central Section members, and submits written
progress reports at all Board meetings. 1-year term.
EASTERN
SECTION COORDINATOR: The field trip leader and primary
correspondent in the NC Coastal Plain organizes fun and educational
outings for EENC members in the North Eastern and South Eastern
sections of NC. The Eastern Section Coordinator resides in the
Eastern Section, represents the needs & interests of EENC’s
Eastern Section members, and submits written progress reports
at all Board meetings. 1-year term.
WESTERN
SECTION COORDINATOR: The field trip leader and primary
correspondent in the NC Mountains organizes fun and educational
outings for EENC members in the Southwest, Northwest and Western
sections of NC. The Western Section Coordinator resides in the
Western Section, represents the needs & interests of EENC’s
Western Section members, and submits written progress reports
at all Board meetings. 1-year term.
POLICY
COMMITTEE CHAIR: The watchdog monitors government activities,
makes recommendations to the Board regarding appropriate local,
state and national environmental education legislation and activities,
makes recommendations to the Board regarding revisions to bylaws
and compiles the recommendations of all Board members for official
bylaws revision. 1-year term.
EDUCATION
COMMITTEE CHAIR: The educator assists the President-elect
in organizing and conducting the Annual Conference, assists
and supports the Section Coordinators and Regional Managers
in developing and coordinating regional environmental education
activities, assists the Section Coordinators in planning and
conducting a statewide retreat each year, acts as a liaison
with other organizations regarding environmental education events
and activities, and coordinates the distribution of the exhibit(s)
to EENC members for public display across the State, and develops
and/or evaluates environmental education materials, programs,
and activities. 1-year term.
RESOURCE
DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE CHAIR: The fundraiser researches,
recommends, and implements fundraising strategies to the Board
of Directors, investigates grant possibilities and writes proposals/applications
as directed by the Board, investigates corporate sponsorships
and reports recommendations to the Board, coordinates/conducts
fundraising endeavors such as the “silent auction”,
T-shirt sales, philanthropy/funding partnerships, etc., and
assists the Section Coordinators and Regional Managers in coordinating
statewide fundraising events. 1-year term.
PARTNERSHIP
COMMITTEE CHAIR: The bridge builder represents EENC
in all joint ventures, coalitions and partnerships which are
beneficial to EENC including: The North Carolina Environmental
Education Certification Program, the North Carolina Environmental
Education Conference, Project Tomorrow Library Grants and bibliography,
NAAEE requests, Teaming With Wildlife, multi-cultural partnerships,
Environmental Federation of North Carolina, Business and Industry
and all cooperative ventures deemed reasonable or requested
of the Committee by the Board. The Committee seeks new partnerships
which will ultimately fulfill the goals of EENC. 1-year term.
COMMUNICATIONS
COMMITTEE CHAIR: The newsletter editor & designer
publishes EENC’s quarterly newsletter, works closely with
the EENC Web Master, prints and distributes ballots, surveys,
brochures, and special publications as necessary, and submits
written progress reports at all Board meetings. 1-year term.
MEMBERSHIP
COMMITTEE CHAIR: The member recruiter & retainer
coordinates statewide membership drives, conducts re-recruitment
campaign targeting inactive members in coordination with the
Secretary, updates & distributes the EENC Networking Directory,
and conducts EENC’s annual Awards Program. The Membership
Committee Chair chairs the Nominating Committee that solicits
nominees for the Board of Directors, assists the Communication
Committee with preparing ballots and conducting EENC’s
annual election, and submits written progress reports at all
Board meetings. 1-year term.
IMPORTANT!
Nominees must be current members in good standing. Nominees
must inform their work supervisor, family, and/or college advisor
of their intent to run for an EENC Board position, discussing
the inherent time commitment and job responsibilities should
they become elected (4+ Board meetings/year and planning/conducting/attendance
at EENC’s Annual Conference).
