Environmental Educators of North Carolina seeks professionals willing to gain valuable leadership skills and experience while serving North Carolina’s official state affiliate to the North American Association for Environmental Education. Through teamwork and consensus, the 15-member Board of Directors renders the organization’s official decisions and is responsible for ensuring excellence in the field of environmental education through the implementation of EENC’s Strategic Plan.  As an EENC member, please nominate yourself or a qualified colleague today!  Nominations must be postmarked by Wednesday, October 1, 2008.  Eligible nominees will be placed on the ballot.  Voting by the membership takes place in the fall, beginning at the annual Conference.  Votes will be counted by the  Board Development Committee, and confirmed by the Board of Directors.  New members will be installed at a joint meeting of incoming and outgoing Board Members in the first quarter of 2009.  We are accepting nominations for all positions, except those that are noted as CLOSED because they are multi-year positions.

 

PRESIDENT:  The official spokesperson and official representative of EENC is accountable for the organization’s commitments, has final approval over the expenditure of organizational funds, presides over Board of Directors meetings and Board retreats, sets annual agenda, makes temporary appointments in emergency situations to fill vacated Board positions that hold true until confirmed at the next Board of Directors meeting, and establishes special committees and appoints chairs of said committees, as deemed necessary to further the goals and objectives of EENC.  The President serves as official affiliate liaison to the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE).  The President serves as one of two EENC representatives on the North Carolina Environmental Education Certification Committee The President works with the President-elect and Past-President to develop and conduct a leadership training program.  The President works with outgoing Board members to prepare new Board members to assume leadership roles with EENC.  The President oversees the production and update of a Board manual, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings..  CLOSED: a multi-year position

PRESIDENT-ELECT:  The president-in-training substitutes for the President when necessary, provides support to Section Coordinators, trains to be President, works with the Treasurer to prepare and propose the budget for the upcoming term, works with the  Board Development Committee in soliciting nominations for Board of Directors positions, and chairs a Planning Committee to organize and conduct EENC’s Annual Conference, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings..  3-year term

IMMEDIATE PAST-PRESIDENT:  The veteran and experienced officer advises the Board of Directors; serves as one of two EENC representatives on the North Carolina Environmental Education Certification Committee and provides regular updates to the Board;  confers with the President on the Certification Committee’s responsibilities and current developments three months prior to President’s assuming Past-President’s role, acts as parliamentarian at Board meetings, serves on Partnership Committee as an advisor, makes recommendations as needed to Conference Committee, and works with President and President-elect to develop and conduct a leadership training program.  The Immediate Past-President chairs the Board Development Committee which conducts the annual nomination and election process for the Board of Directors. The Immediate Past-President submits written reports of actions and communications to Secretary and copies to Board members upon request.  The Immediate Past-President shall prepare an official Annual Report that highlights EENC’s accomplishments and activities in the past year.  CLOSED: a multi-year position.

SECRETARY:  The official historian and recorder takes minutes at all Board of Directors meetings and provides the EENC Board with a copy of the minutes within 30 days following each meeting.  The Secretary maintains the list of all EENC Board of Directors names and business addresses, maintains EENC’s historical records, maintains correspondence with other individuals, organizations and groups, and serves on the Communications Committee. 2-year term

TREASURER:  The official banker & bookkeeper maintains EENC’s financial records, oversees all receipt and expenditure of funds in EENC’s operating budget.  The Treasurer, as chief accountant, also prepares a budget report for every Board meeting, submits IRS tax forms, has Treasurer’s records reviewed or audited, as needed, and consults with the President-elect (re: proposed budget).  2-year term.  CLOSED: a multi-year position.

CENTRAL SECTION COORDINATOR:  The field trip leader in the NC Piedmont organizes fun and educational outings for EENC members in the North Central, Central, and South Central sections of NC.  The Central Section Coordinator resides in the Central Section, represents the needs & interests of EENC’s Central Section members, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings.  The Central Section Coordinator acts as meeting host when the Board meeting is held in the Central Section of the state. 1-year term

EASTERN SECTION COORDINATOR:  The field trip leader in the NC Coastal Plain organizes fun and educational outings for EENC members in the North Eastern and South Eastern sections of NC.  The Eastern Section Coordinator resides in the Eastern Section, represents the needs & interests of EENC’s Eastern Section members, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings. The Eastern Section Coordinator acts as meeting host when the Board meeting is held in the Eastern Section of the state. 1-year term

WESTERN SECTION COORDINATOR:  The field trip leader in the NC Mountains organizes fun and educational outings for EENC members in the Southwest, Northwest and Western sections of NC.  The Western Section Coordinator resides in the Western Section, represents the needs & interests of EENC’s Western Section members, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings.  The Western Section Coordinator acts as meeting host when the Board meeting is held in the Western Section of the state 1-year term

POLICY COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The watchdog monitors government activities, makes recommendations to the Board regarding appropriate local, state and national environmental education legislation and activities, assists the President as one of two official affiliate liaisons to the North American Association for Environmental Education, makes recommendations to the Board regarding revisions to bylaws and compiles the recommendations of all Board members for official bylaws revision. The Policy Committee Chair maintains and updates the EENC Policy and Operations Manuals and provides information to the Board and members about existing EENC policies that have been approved by the Board, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings.  1-year term

EDUCATION COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The educator assists the President-elect in organizing and conducting the Annual Conference (especially in the areas of sessions and scholarships), assists and supports the Section Coordinators  in developing and coordinating regional environmental education activities, acts as a liaison with other organizations regarding environmental education events and activities,  coordinates the distribution of the exhibit(s) to EENC members for public display across the State, updates the exhibit as needed, and develops and/or evaluates environmental education materials, programs, and activities, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings.1-year term

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The fundraiser researches, recommends, and implements fundraising strategies to the Board of Directors, investigates grant possibilities and writes proposals/applications as directed by the Board, investigates corporate sponsorships and reports recommendations to the Board, coordinates/conducts fundraising endeavors such as the “silent auction”, T-shirt sales, philanthropy/funding partnerships, etc., and assists the Section Coordinators in coordinating statewide fundraising events, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings1-year term

PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The bridge builder represents EENC in all joint ventures, coalitions and partnerships which are beneficial to EENC such as the North Carolina Certification Program, North American Association for Environmental Education, business and industry and all cooperative ventures deemed reasonable or requested of the Committee by the Board, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings..  The Committee seeks new partnerships that will ultimately achieve the goals of EENC as outlined in the mission and strategic plan.  1-year term

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The newsletter editor & designer publishes EENC’s quarterly newsletter, works closely with the EENC Web Master, prints and distributes, surveys, brochures, and special publications as necessary, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings.  1-year term

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR:  The member recruiter & retainer coordinates statewide membership drives, conducts recruitment campaigns targeting inactive members, updates &  promotes the EENC Networking Directory, maintains the membership database, conducts EENC’s annual Awards Program, and submits written progress reports at all Board meetings. 1-year term

Nominees must be current members in good standing. Nominees must inform their work supervisor, family, and/or college advisor of their intent to run for an EENC Board position, discussing the inherent time commitment and job responsibilities should they become elected (4+ Board meetings/year and planning/conducting EENC’s Annual Conference).
